Our Structure

LCEA’s organizational structure is a hybrid staff and volunteer structure and centers on establishing teams. This structure honors the legacy of LCEA being mostly a volunteer-driven collaborative while building a foundation that can equitably resource and develop staff to drive the work with volunteer support to democratize energy at multiple levels, including local, state, and national.

Each team will have a designated staff or lead team member responsible for coordinating the work determined through the organization’s strategic planning process.

Volunteers have multiple avenues to be a part of LCEA’s mission and goals. Longtime volunteers are encouraged to join the Support Committee.

Leads Team

The leads team would consist of each team lead, who could be a volunteer or paid staff member, and the executive director. The Lead team’s primary responsibility is to ensure organizational development, strategic planning, and other organizational duties such as personnel, staffing salaries, and other areas noted in the decision-making chart.

Support Committee

The support committee supports paid staff in program and administrative work. The support committee will aid LCEA by reflecting on the program work, helping to serve as advisors and informing the direction of the work. Support Committee members can join weekly LCEA staff meetings to plug into specific tasks. The Support Committee will be expected to attend quarterly meetings. One of the four annual meetings will be an Annual Strategic Planning Retreat.

Program and Campaign Teams

The Organizing staff will lead the program and campaigns team with guidance from the Lead Team. This is a great initial starting point for new volunteers to join LCEA through LCEA’s programs and campaigns. Programs and campaigns will be determined at the Annual Strategic Planning Retreat. They will require strategic campaign plans to be submitted for review, discussion, and approval at the annual strategic planning meeting. Elements of the campaign should include but not be limited to a SWOT analysis, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, establishing SMART goals, strategies, tactics, timeline, and assessment of organizational resources and capacity.

Policy and Research Team

The policy and research team will analyze and review policies and conduct associated research with policies. Research topics can be self-driven by volunteers but should aim to support the strategic goals set out by the Annual Retreat.

Communications Team

The communications team will be responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies for LCEA. These include both traditional and social media strategies as capacity allows it. This can include but is not limited to media requests, press releases, social media engagement, and the development of communication materials in coordination with other LCEA teams.

Fundraising Team

The fundraising team will be responsible for helping fundraise for LCEA. This includes applying for grants, engaging with donors, and developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
